Cen-Tex Corvette Club & 1st Autocross

I am officially a member of the Cen-Tex Corvette Club of Waco, TX as of April 5th, 2011. It was a warm reception and they were happy the "outcast" bought a 'vette finally.

I attended the first autocross in the Corvette on April 9th-10th. I started out missing some gates and hitting cones until I finally ran a long string of 1min, 3 second (1:03) runs. Looking back at the videos it seems I was going a bit too fast and thus going slower. Shall learn my lesson and do better next time. It was also pointed out to me that I need a stock air intake & shifter to compete in the stock class...so...bought a stock air intake. Looking for a stock shifter now.

Change the brake fluid in the reservoir a few times...need to keep doing that until it is nice and clear again. The clutch fluid is staying mostly clear at this point.

Few people pointed out a rapid blinker on passenger side and no blinker or driving light in the front. After some learning on how to replace the bulbs I found the culprit (front passenger driving light) and had it replaced. All is good now! Also bought jacking pucks for future work.

Bellmead Cruise Night

Saturday, April 2nd was the first Bellmead, TX Cruise-In night. This was my first chance to take the car out into the public "car enthusiast" of Waco. I met with the corvette club group and they instantly approved. Car was dirtier than I thought though...

Which brings me to the next two things I did this weekend:

1. Changed the clutch fluid. I used Ranger's method from CorvetteForum.com to replace the fluid a few times until it looked clean and clear. Can't tell much of a different but it is preventative after all.

2. Polished & Waxed the entire car.I started with Dawn dish soap to remove the wax buildup from the previous owner. Next used some Meguires polish & paint swirl forumla. Finally, used my Meguire's NXT Tech 2.0 wax to finish it off. The paint still needs some deeper work done but it looks a lot better than before.

My car had a sticker from "Texas Shine" (txshine.com) who apparently detailed the car. There are all kinds of swirl and burn marks on the car as well as wax residue in every crevice. DON'T use these guys whoever they are.

Prestone DOT4 Fluid........$3/bottle x2

First Order of Business

Have driven the car around my back-roads circuit in Waco, TX. For those that are curious...it is Hewitt Dr. -> Spring Valley -> Old Lorena Rd. -> Hwy 84 -> Hwy 6 -> 35 South -> Hewitt Dr. Plenty of opportunity to get up to the speed limit in a timely fashion.

Spent my first night in the garage tinkering on it. Removed the playboy bunny emblem. Removed the "CORVETTE" decal and used Goo-Gone and then a quick polish to remove the residue on the windshield. Probably could have just polished first -- it worked great. Next, I installed my Infinity Basslink sub-woofer using the installed wiring the previous owner left. It does fit in the compartment behind the driver wheel so does not take up hardly anything in the trunk.

Also just received a new gas cap. The original one no longer tightens correctly and leaks fumes out -- apparently you can lose a gallon of gas in a few weeks through the cap.

Car looks much better now! New pics soon.

Stant Gas Cap 10836..........$28.46 (1 day shipped)

Purchase and Arrival

I bought the corvette on March 28th, 2011 at the Texell Credit Union in Killeen, Tx. The former owner's name was Alan and was a military trainer based in Ft. Hood. He owned three corvettes: his, his wife's, and this one was for his 17 year old daughter. She owned it for about a month before she lost her privilege to own it. Two days after posting it on Craigslist it was sold!

Amy and I had spent the entire weekend up in Ft. Worth and Dallas looking at three different cars: one 2003 cobra and two corvettes. They all had most of what I wanted in my next car but none of them had it all. That Sunday night is when I came home and found this corvette just posted. The site I used was (http://www.jaxed.com) which is great for checking Craigslist, Ebay, etc.

How do I know a 17 year old girl was driving it? The car had a playboy bunny emblem on the back, carbon-fiber twin-blade wipers, and a big wrinkled "CORVETTE" sticker on the windshield. Enough said.

Mileage: 68,500.
Avg. MPG: 17.1 (previous owner's value)
